The grant will be used to engage and support a coalition of Massachusetts equity advocates from civil rights, disability rights, parent, educator, and education reform communities to demand and secure policies that will increase opportunity and achievement for low-income students and students of color.

This grant will serve more than 270 principals and differentiate its supports based on the needs of principals leading excellent, growing, and priority schools.

This grant supports leadership coaching in the UIC Ed.D. Program to implement a scalable and cost-effective model of direct leadership coaching.

This grant will support the Center for Collaborative Education’s statewide advocacy campaign with the goal of leveraging state policy changes to transform Massachusetts’ current education assessment system.

BPE will strengthen its PreK-12 pathway of neighborhood-based Teaching Academies while preparing outstanding Boston Public Schools (BPS) teachers through its Boston Teacher Residency (BTR) program. Additionally, BPE will direct a portion of the funding specifically toward political consulting and communications in order to disseminate key learnings and to build political support for its work.

The NYC Leadership Academy will enhance targeted communications efforts that will share our expertise and the knowledge we have acquired about leadership for equity with the broader education field.

This grant will launch and help prepare the first cohort of 14 teachers for certification through Bank Street’s Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages Teacher Residency Program.

This grant will provide funding to revise the current EdD curriculum at the University of Illinois at Chicago, incorporating social emotional learning theory and practice to better equip future school principals for leading SEL in their schools.

This grant will support the University of Chicago’s Urban Education Institute’s Urban Teacher Education Program (UChicago UTEP) to expand and deepen instruction to UTEP students related to the developmental impact of trauma and trauma-responsive practices in schools.

New Visions’ teacher residency programs bridge pre-service training and classroom instruction. This year, we will transition Urban Teacher Residency, currently run in partnership with Queens College and NYCDOE, to those partners. New Visions requests renewed funding to support this gradual release.

The Black Teacher Project provides support to Black Teachers in the Bay Area. It helps these teachers teach their best, navigate often culturally unresponsive systems, and develop leadership for themselves and their students. Through its programs, BTP ultimately hopes to impact the outcomes for the most vulnerable students.

This grant will support the integration of social-emotional learning within school and classroom practice in Boston Public Schools. Working closely with selected schools, Rennie will build their understanding of key SEL concepts, conduct a needs assessment, and develop a blueprint that helps them create a detailed plan for implementation.

This grant will advance state and district efforts to diversify the educator workforce. CCSSO will support and evaluate the efforts of four states (Illinois, Massachusetts, New York and Pennsylvania) as they implement the plans they created during their participation in CCSSO’s Diverse and Learner Ready Teacher Initiative.

LEAD Hubs identified improving equity competencies of principals and broadening social/ emotional learning supports for schools as key drivers for school improvement. This project will develop Leadership for Equity micro-credentials for district administrators and aspiring principals and create a suite of SEL Classroom Climate and Practices resources for school principals.

This grant ensures that increasing public investments and policies are aligned, scalable, and targeted to improve the lives of low-income children.

This grant will (1) implement the Road Map (defined below) around four issues; (2) educate, engage, and activate key state leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders; and (3) influence relevant federal and national conversations and activities impacting the early childhood education (ECE) workforce and incorporate related learnings into Illinois’ efforts.

This grant will (1) advance early childhood policy at the national and state levels, including policy to support a statewide prenatal-to-five system that is comprehensive, focused on quality, and inclusive of all early learners; and (2) produce and disseminate awareness building tools highlighting various impacts of the Ounce’s longitudinal Follow-Up Study of Educare Chicago (FUS).

This grant supports New America’s Early & Elementary Education Policy Program to continue to inject PreK-3rd grade policy ideas into the national education conversation and produce new policy insights to propel PreK-3rd reforms in states, school districts, communities, and schools.

This project will identify the structural barriers and policy conditions that negatively impact higher education access and the success of early childhood educators, and highlight examples of strategies to reduce these barriers. Emphasis will be placed on educators of color and bilingual educators.

The T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood National Center will develop strategies and support policy development to advance education, compensation, retention, and career mobility in support of a diverse, competent early childhood workforce for the nation’s young children.

Healthy Steps, a program of Advocate Children’s Hospital, will continue to support the implementation of social needs screening, information and referral program to improve patient access and adherence to health and mental health care. Healthy Steps will work with Advocate Physician Partners to promote Healthy Steps online training modules to affiliated, community-based pediatric providers in the coming year.

This grant will support workforce development program in San Francisco. The Jumpstart/EDvance Practicum connects future teachers with high-quality coaching, mentorship, and guided hands-on experience, resulting in better outcomes for children and a sustainable, well-prepared pipeline of early educators

This grant will support the execution of the workforce development objectives created through a multi-year expansion initiative that advances the goal of a universal, effective, and sustainable infant/early childhood mental health consultation (I/ECMHC) model and an expanded and qualified consultant workforce.

Building on the success of our Birth Equity Leadership Academy and energized by new leadership, this grant would support the launching of the Every Baby Our Baby Advocacy Network, including a new Advocacy/Policy Director, to increase our capacity for collective action and community-led advocacy for birth equity.

This grant will help maximize the use of the Illinois Risk and Reach Report as a go-to tool for stakeholders, continuing its dissemination strategy through June 2020, and beginning plans for the next iteration of the Report in 2021.

Council for a Strong America (CSA) will build policymakers’ and the public’s support for increased investments in high-quality early childhood education and care, coupled with investments in a strong early childhood workforce, by elevating the voices of members from law enforcement and business communities in Illinois, California, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania.

The BPS Department of Early Childhood will partner with the University of Massachusetts, Boston, to create an online, credit-bearing course for directors of preschool programs to support them as UPK programs as instructional leaders. There is a parallel course for teachers currently being created through another source of funding.

This grant supports Youth on Board/YouthBuild USA’s work in its capacity as the co-administrators of the Boston Student Advisory Council (BSAC) and Listening Works Convening.

This grant supports Mikva Challenge’s Citywide Youth Council Program that promotes youth voice and youth leadership by providing young people with the knowledge, skills, agency, and access to have a meaningful impact on public policy decisions that significantly impact Chicago youth.

This grant supports Juvenile Law Center’s Youth Engagement projects that create opportunities for youth with experience in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems to use their personal stories and experiences as a platform for social change in their communities.

FCYO will work with the Stone Foundation to develop recommendations to the Foundation to redesign their scholarship program in line with the current goals of their Youth Development portfolio. FCYO will conduct interviews and background research on how the program could support organizational leaders in the field of youth organizing.

All Coro youth programs prepare young people to make NYC policy and practice more responsive and effective. The Participatory Budgeting Youth Fellowship, Coro’s newest program of this kind, is a partnership with the City Council that prepares high school students to increase youth involvement in NYC’s budget decisions.

This grant supports the Youth Justice Board, an after-school program that brings together young people to study and propose solutions to the public safety challenges that most affect them.

This grant will support the Calafia Fellowship Program which will make possible 1) the production of Calafia, a statewide youth policy journal; 2) close collaboration with youth advocates and data to set Calafia agenda; and 3) pairing Calafia Fellows with professional journalists for mentorship.

The project will mobilize youth voices as catalysts for change in practice and policies in New York City’s juvenile justice system. The first phase of the project will run from July 1 2019 through June 2020.

Chicago Freedom School will continue to implement its trauma and healing informed curriculum which includes strategies, practices and tools to support the operationalizing of SB 100 within classroom settings. This will be achieved by developing curriculum and providing trainings for educators. school administration and staff, youth workers, students and youth.

 

 

The general operating grant will support C4Js work on youth empowerment and development through developing the skills of youth leaders to advocate for student-centered reforms, and lead campaigns to improve school systems for low income students of color.

This grant will advance local member-led campaigns for Dignity in Schools Campaign Solutions Not Suspensions, engage youth in leadership development and support collective national action.

This grant will support efforts to provide trainings and technical assistance to youth-led/youth-serving organizations in Philadelphia, expanding their capacity to empower students as change agents and deepening their understanding of the legal solutions available to address educational barriers facing students.
