Youth Development BPE $120,000 Boston, MA

BPE will strengthen its PreK-12 pathway of neighborhood-based Teaching Academies while preparing outstanding Boston Public Schools (BPS) teachers through its Boston Teacher Residency (BTR) program. Additionally, BPE will direct a portion of the funding specifically toward political consulting and communications in order to disseminate key learnings and to build political support for its work.

Youth Development National Equity Project: Black Teacher Project $30,000 Oakland, CA

The Black Teacher Project provides support to Black Teachers in the Bay Area. It helps these teachers teach their best, navigate often culturally unresponsive systems, and develop leadership for themselves and their students. Through its programs, BTP ultimately hopes to impact the outcomes for the most vulnerable students.

This grant will support the integration of social-emotional learning within school and classroom practice in Boston Public Schools. Working closely with selected schools, Rennie will build their understanding of key SEL concepts, conduct a needs assessment, and develop a blueprint that helps them create a detailed plan for implementation.

Youth Development Council of Chief State School Officers $45,000 Washington, DC

This grant will advance state and district efforts to diversify the educator workforce. CCSSO will support and evaluate the efforts of four states (Illinois, Massachusetts, New York and Pennsylvania) as they implement the plans they created during their participation in CCSSO’s Diverse and Learner Ready Teacher Initiative.

Youth Development Illinois State University $60,000 Chicago, IL

LEAD Hubs identified improving equity competencies of principals and broadening social/ emotional learning supports for schools as key drivers for school improvement. This project will develop Leadership for Equity micro-credentials for district administrators and aspiring principals and create a suite of SEL Classroom Climate and Practices resources for school principals.

This grant will (1) implement the Road Map (defined below) around four issues; (2) educate, engage, and activate key state leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders; and (3) influence relevant federal and national conversations and activities impacting the early childhood education (ECE) workforce and incorporate related learnings into Illinois’ efforts.
